Can a brooder (CB) be used as a grow out pen (GL)? Can a grow out pen (GL) be used as a brooder (CB)?

Yes, but there are some considerations. Chick Brooders (CB series) have closed doors while Grown Out Pens (GL series) have open doors that allow chicks to eat from the food trough.  Chick brooders have starter feeders and starter drinkers, but Grow Out Pens do not, and the birds drink from the automatic water system.  The 9.5" brooder (CB25 series) and grow out pens (GL25 series) are very similar with solid insulated walls.  The 15” chick brooder (CB40 series) has solid walls but the 15” grown out pen (GL40 series) does not – it has open grid walls. 

If you choose to convert your chick brooder or grow out pen - swap CB25 door with GL25 door and swap CB40 door with GL40 door.  The doors, heaters, starter feeders and starter drinkers are available for purchase on our website.

To change from chick brooder to grow out pen:

Remove heaters, starter feeder, starter drinker and swap doors

To change from grown out pen to chick brooder:

Add heaters, starter feeders, starter drinker and swap doors.
